Son of a nutcracker! It’s the holiday season in the Pike District!

It’s our favorite time of year, full of cheer and hot cocoa and sparkling lights and all the holiday things. But it’s also the busiest. And we know planning activities when you have family and friends in town can be just another holiday chore. Don’t worry, though, because we’ve done the planning for you! Luminocity Head to Montgomery County Fairgrounds now through January 15 and step into a light-filled wonderland! The 6-acre paradise is filled with endless lights and captivating holiday displays including pandas, a unicorn, and a shining donut tunnel. Get your tickets here.


Butler’s Orchard Harvest Festival and Wreath Market Visit Butler’s Orchard to get your holiday wreath from the Wreath Department of the Farm Market and to partake in Holiday Festival fun including camp fires, giant slides, and animals!


Gaithersburg Winter Lights Festival The City of Gaithersburg is hosting another year of the Winter Lights Festival! Keep warm and enjoy the comfort of your car while you drive through the 3.5 mile route of more than 450 illuminated displays and lit trees. BabyCat Ugly Sweater Party Grab your ugliest sweater and make your way to BabyCat Brewery on December 22 from 6:00-11:00pm for the Ugly Sweater Party. Enjoy a night of live music and indulge in delicious beer!

The Hip Hop Nutcracker This Strathmore performance was such a hit last year it’s back again! And you can see it now through December 22. According to Strathmore, “The Hip Hop Nutcracker features a combination of Tchaikovsky’s classic score and all-star contemporary and hip-hop dancers, a DJ, a violinist, and Kurtis Blow, one of hip-hop’s founding fathers, who opens the show with a short set.” Watch the classic adapted in a modern-day New York City setting.
